The Cilento
Contained in a National Park, declared by the UNESCO World
Patrimony of Mankind, the Cilento is extended from the Tyrrhenian
coast up to the feet of the Campanian-Lucanian Apennines, from the
sea to the mountains, including a great part of the province of
Salerno.
The coast is splendid, the mountain very beautiful, with the tops of
the Alburni, Cervati and Gelbison, as well as the buttresses of
Bulgheria Mountain and Stella Mountain. To the extraordinary
naturalistic emergencies, due to the remarkable heterogeneity of the
territory, the mythical and mysterious character of an earth rich in
history and culture is placed side by side: from the call of the
nymphs Leucosya and Kamaraton, to the beaches where the helmsman
Palinurus left Aeneas, from the rests of the ancient Elea-Velia and
the temples of Paestum, to the splendid Chartreuse of Padula.
This millennial symbiosis is perceivable today in the wealth of
rites and traditions and in the great variety of typical products.
